Our responsibility
What we’ve been doing for years is now visible.
We take responsibility for the environmental and social impact of the way we do business. Here, we share the progress we have made so far, where we can make the greatest difference and the steps we are taking next.

Not with a label and not with a single project. It is reflected in many decisions: waste heat instead of fossil fuel-based heating, photovoltaic systems at the logistics centre, timber as a load-bearing building material, less packaging material, electric mobility and a working environment where respect and fairness matter.
Some of these decisions were initially more complex or more expensive. Today, they are an integral part of our operations. At the same time, we know that the majority of our reported emissions are not generated directly at our sites, but along the value chain. This is exactly where we want to focus more strongly next.
Roland Fink, Company Founder
Our responsibility is reflected in the many conscious choices we make, not just in individual projects, but in the many conscious decisions we take.
Some of these have shaped our company for years and are now clearly visible.
We generate more than a third of the electricity we need in Saaz with the photovoltaic system on the roof of our logistics centre.
We heat and cool our logistics centre using waste heat from our neighbouring farmer's biogas plant.
3,609 m³ of timber provides long-term CO₂ storage and is a defining feature of the timber construction used for our logistics centre.
More than 98% of the shipping materials used for our parcels are plastic-free. Only in a few cases (bulky goods, pallet shipping) have we yet to find an alternative to recyclable plastic film.
Our return rate of just 3% saves resources, reduces emissions and cuts down on packaging materials.
Around 30 charging points, as well as electric cars and e-bikes, for our employees' mobility.
400 employees from 29 nations, as well as colleagues with disabilities, make diversity a natural part of life at niceshops.
Since 2018, we have calculated our carbon footprint every year.
Free shared meals and collaboration on equal terms make niceshops a special place to work.
Our nicegarden creates habitats for plants, animals and people, right on our doorstep.
Our starting point:
Through measures such as green electricity, renewable energy supply, energy-efficient buildings and electric mobility, we have already significantly reduced our direct emissions. The remaining emissions from Scope 1 (16.46 t CO₂-eq) and Scope 2 (12.16 t CO₂-eq) account for only a small proportion of our total emissions compared with emissions along our value chain.

For us, responsibility starts with transparency. Only by understanding the impact of our business activities can we take targeted action and achieve improvements. In 2025, our total emissions amounted to 2,534 tonnes of CO₂ equivalents (t CO2eq).
The vast majority of our emissions are generated not by our direct business operations, but along our upstream and downstream value chain.
Where we will focus our efforts going forward
The materiality analysis and carbon footprint clearly identify 5 areas for action in which we have the greatest potential to develop our approach to responsibility:
Packaging is the largest source of our CO₂e emissions, accounting for 46.6%.

Delivering our parcels to the distribution centres accounts for 26.3% of our CO₂e emissions, making it a key area where we can make a difference.

Our employees' journeys to and from work account for 16.7% of our CO₂e emissions.

Transparency and verifiable criteria for our product range are an important strategic lever.

Reducing the gender pay gap is an important step towards greater transparency and equal opportunities.

Our next steps
Implementation will be embedded within the respective team. We will provide transparent updates about progress and changes.
Harnessing 3 potentials
Implement at least 3 identified opportunities to make packaging more environmentally friendly.
2 electric lines
Operating at least 2 delivery routes to parcel distribution centres using fully electric vehicles, with no direct exhaust emissions while driving.
Establish Mobi Points
Introducing an incentive system for more responsible commuting.
Standard and dashboard
Defining verifiable criteria and transparently show the proportion of products classified accordingly.
Gender pay gap below 5 %
Meet the target for each employee group or submit an approved action plan with defined deadlines.
Social responsibility
We aim to be a company where respect, fairness and trust are part of everyday working life. Diversity, equal opportunities, good working conditions and shared responsibility are therefore among our key areas of focus.
